The Foot Fist Way

The Foot Fist Way is a low budget comedy that was shot in only 19 days staring Danny McBride as an over eccentric tae kwon do instructor. The movie has a plot, but is more of an excuse to tie together "kick-ass" jokes. A significant part of the movie is clips of little children, graceless middle-aged men, and senior citizens awkwardly practicing tae kwon do.
The movie revolves around McBride's character Fred Simmons and his relationship with his dimwitted wife and his hero Chuck "the truck" Taylor. Simmons, like most comedy leads today, is exceptionally stupid and arrogant but is also oddly somebody for the audience to cheer for.
There isn't much to the movie, but if you like laughing out loud while watching some "crazy awesome" tae kwon do, then this is the movie for you.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

This FX T.V. series is without question the craziest and most ridiculous show on T.V., and I mean that in a good way. The show is centered around five people who work in a rundown bar called Paddy's in Philadelphia. "The gang" is what they call themselves. There is not an innocent character in the show, all of them are shallow, backstabbing, lazy, and genuinely repugnant.
One of my favorite episodes is when "the gang" decides to start letting high school kids into their bar to "help keep them safe." So naturally the bar becomes packed with high schoolers and all "the gang" can't help but become swept up in all the high school drama. They start going to high school house parties and dating way to young high school kids. Eventually they all get asked to the prom except for one. Mac, a twenty something year old guy doesn't get asked so he decides to go to the prom stagnant. A grow man going stag to the prom, now that's funny. Eventually, they all get pathetically dumped and wind up not going to the prom at all.
Their episode names are so properly titled "The Gang Goes Jihad," "Dennis Looks Like A Registered Sex Offender," or "Sweet Dee's Dating A Retarded Person." All of them are equally offensive an equally funny.

Garfield minus Garfield

Officially my new favorite creation in the magical world wide wed is garfieldminusgarfield.com. The idea is simple and hilarious. To take Garfield the cat out of Garfield comic strips leads you to find a bipolar and despondent John Arbuckle. Or as the website states at the top of the page, "It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights the losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb."
The website posts a new comic strip just about everyday. You may be thinking that the website could get old after a while, but the comics stay fresh and funny. At least in my opinion. I guess watching a middle aged man yell at the wall for no reason will always be funny.
After a while of reading these comics I realized that the absence of Garfield does not really make John much crazier. I mean the guy talks and yells at his cat all day and is still has a hopeless love life. Nonetheless I like the comic strip more without Garfield.

Tropic Thunder

I have to admit that I expected satirical brilliance out of Tropic Thunder, and that is exactly what I got. The movie is an all out assault on Hollywood and all that it stands for. Major credit is due to Ben Stiller, who is the movies co-writer, director, co-star, and producer. The movie is about a Vietnam war movie gone wrong and Hollywood's struggle to make money out of the downward spiraling project. The movie is fearless, going after well-known Hollywood flicks such as Apocalypse Now, Platoon, I Am Sam, and Rambo
Stiller plays an action star named Tugg Speedman, who hit it big with his ridiculous film Scorcher and its many sequels. But his character's career is collapsing. Tugg chooses to make Tropic Thunder to hopefully revive his career and maybe considered as a serious actor.
Robert Downey Jr. is the one who really steals the show. He plays a highly critically acclaimed actor Kirk Lazarus who takes acting to the extreme. Kirk gets surgery to pigment his skin to be able to play an African-American character in Tropic Thunder. Kirk takes this role so seriously that he stays in character even when the cameras stop rolling. Downey Jr.'s performance is one that will be remembered.
The film has a strong cast. Jack Black plays a drug addicted premadonna comedian. Tom Cruise is great as a money hungry, extremely hairy, hip-hop loving movie producer who has seemed to of lost his conscience. Matthew McConaughey plays Tugg's agent who becomes obsessed with getting his client a TiVo. Danny McBride plays the pyrofreak effects specialist. And Brandon T. Jackson plays a hip-hop star who is trying to break through in acting.
With a combination of clever writing and a strong cast, Tropic Thunder is the funniest movie of this year, so far.
